To many, especially white folks, they ve represented all the highfalutin ideals enshrined in the constitution: independence, self-reliance and the ability to live freely. For Black folks, guns often symbolize all those same things but, as we like to say on the show, it s complicated. As we talked about on our latest episode of the pod, firearms have always loomed large in Black people s lives going all the way back to the days of colonial slavery. Right from the jump, guns were tied up in America s thorny relationship with race; you can actually tell the story of how America s racial order takes shape, in part, by tracing the history of guns in the U.S. and who was allowed to own them.

As we talked about on our latest episode of the pod, firearms have always loomed large in Black people s lives going all the way back to the days of colonial slavery. Right from the jump, guns were tied up in America s thorny relationship with race; you can actually tell the story of how America s racial order takes shape, in part, by tracing the history of guns in the U.S. and who was allowed to own them. To try to understand that ( very long) history of race and guns and make it digestible, we talked to Alain Stephens, a reporter with The Trace who has been reading about the history of Black gun ownership for a long while. granted, the role claim would be moot. people s rights would approve to and even if it is a zygote. are we at the point where advocates are able to set aside the mother because she s just the host? that s very much the goal of the person hood advocate. they have not had much success. many states, alabama have passed this state bill. joy, you make a really important point about the woman and the woman here is a person and not just a host for the baby that she s carrying. that s why these sorts of prosecutions are so dangerous. the irony here is this is the first african-american elected to be a district attorney in alabama who brought this prosecution. i don t think this is the consequence she intended.
