vice president joe biden. what is going to be on the table here? martha, a couple of observations. number one, i m not sure we can call them negotiations because the senate has yet to pass a bill to keep the government open. the democrats clearly and you saw howard dean, former national chairman, said he wants the government to shut down because of political purposes. i call them discussions. the so called quote unquote rider when you talk about the constitution, constitutionally, it is congress that decides how money is spent, and so what you call riders, they date back to the dawn of the republic. i served four terms in congress, i ve never known a spending bill that didn t have, quote unquote riders. let s pass a bill to keep the government open, and then we can have the debate about these other polices, but again, the democrats seem to be thbl that it helps them in the next election, they don t care about the next generation, apparently, but the next election, to cause a

new jobless claims every week, we re nowhere near the level that would indicate we have a strong job market. we don t. three hundred eighty-eight thousand new jobless benefits, that s still too high. but martha, there is another side to this coin. i suggest you read your 401(k) statement that s going to be coming to you very, very soon. martha: really? we try not to open it, generally! it hasn t looked too good the past couple of years. you re like a lot of people, but this time, read t we re going to coming to the end of what is likely to be the best quarter in terms of the performance on the stock market for the past three years. go figure. martha: that s great news, but i want you to answer one question for me: why! because corporate profits are very, very strong, and because the federal reserve is printing a lot of money. martha: right. so strong profits mean good stock prices and printing a lot of money, it goes into oil and stock
bill: and rick: and senator graham is in favor of what s going on in libya. yes, there s an opportunity for him in the senate to reach across the aisle and get agreement, and you re right, ron, he does have to make more of an effort to get congress on his side. rick: real quickly, is this potentially a political problem for the president? it s a huge political problem for the president because it s an unending mission, he needs to fund it and he needs congress to do it and going forward he s going to have to treat them like a co-equal branch. rick: ron bonjean, nina easton, thank you both. thank you. martha: as we approach the 10-year mark since september 11th, construction is moving forward on a memorial that would honor the victims of flight 93 who fought back against the terrorists but the victims families are now saying they need more money for the pennsylvania memorial and are asking congress to give it to them. laura ingle can live with
