FIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against the Ecuadorean
Football Federation following accusations of homophobic chants during
the World Cup opener against Qatar on November 20.
Byron Castillo, the player at the centre of a long legal battle over
Ecuador's place at the FIFA World Cup, has been omitted from the
nation's squad over fears it could lead to "unjust sanctions".
By coincidence Neven Ilic, who as President of Panam Sports is deep in
preparations for next year's first Pan American Games in his native
Chile, arrived in his country along with the 1962 FIFA World Cup.
Ecuador will retain their spot at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after FIFA threw out a claim of ineligibility against one of its players, Byron Castillo.
