On April 9, the renowned Massachusetts jewelry and design gallery Sienna Patti Contemporary will debut a solo exhibition by celebrated metalsmith and jewelry artist Lola Brooks.
“Story of the Eye: A Subculture of Ornamental Oddities” is composed of pieces fabricated from stainless steel chain wrapped around plaster cores. Hundreds of tiny, individual pieces of 14k gold solder were flowed between every link of the chain, essentially freezing it to itself.

The finished pieces textured metal hearts with humanoid features (and accessories including hair bows!) could be construed as chilling or humorous, depending on your perspective.

Histoire de style: Art Déco collection, created for Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week (which was virtual this year), puts an inclusive spin on art deco motifs, shapes, and forms pulled from the brand’s cavernous archives by showcasing both male and female models in the collection’s catalog.
But the styling wasn’t the only element that challenged gender codes the jewels themselves subverted stereotypes. A stunning deco lariat necklace recalled a necktie, while a white gold headband peppered in a diamond chevron pattern was seen worn by a male model as a cummerbund topper.

The retailer is inviting BIPOC designers over 21 years old to apply for its Seed grants, via an application on the store’s website, by Feb. 28. The awards must be used to buy materials or pay for a professional development course.
The notice began with “They tried to bury us. They didn’t know we were seeds,” referencing lines from a poem by Dinos Christianopoulos that have become a rallying cry for various social movements.
