Heartfelt tributes have poured in for historian and Portishead in Bloom stalwart Sandy Tebbutt, who died on May 9 after a battle with cancer.
The 78-year-old mother and grandmother had been a member of the Gordano Civic Society since she moved to Portishead in 1968. She was also a keen bird watcher, a member of the local footpath group, a tree warden and for decades was an influential member of Portishead in Bloom.

Staff from Portishead Medical Group will be delivering Covid-19 vaccinations from Portishead Folk Hall from the end of this week.
The life-saving vaccinations are being offered to the community’s most vulnerable people as part of the national vaccination programme.
Local practices have been working together to offer clinics from Portishead Medical Group, which is the designated vaccination centre for Portishead, Pill and some Clevedon patients.
Now, due to increasing availability of the AstraZeneca vaccine, it is possible to offer the vaccine from additional sites including the Folk Hall, in High Street, which is owned by Portishead Town Council.

People in Portishead can expect no increase in the town’s precept for the coming year.
This was agreed after the town council set its budget for 2021/22 at a special meeting held on December 16.
The council’s finance officer, Martin Salisbury, presented a report at the meeting, explaining the increase in the precept in 2020 had been ‘sufficient’ to allow the council to invest in the town and keep its reserves at the level recommended by the Joint Panel on Accountability and Governance (JPAG).
2020 saw investment in the creation of a new heritage centre at the Folk Hall in Portishead.

Myers School of Art alumna Shani Richards is featured in ‘Suffrage: Inequality. Persistence. Justice.’, the Emily Davis Gallery’s Latest Exhibition that seeks to honor women involved in the suffragette movement.
The exhibit opened on Oct. 20 and will be available to the public until mid-December.
“I create art that addresses issues of racism, sexism and stereotypes,” said Richards. “These issues are all reflection of this country and my work is all American.”
Richards created her Hanging Cabinet Series as a symbolic way to explore the role of hair for not only black women but also that of black men. Hair, or more specifically hair texture, used to be a way of showing status or race.
