out. part of my job that i campaigned on getting back to work. i spent my 39th wedding anniversary here. fishing is pristine. the seafood is great and i m promoting what s going on and what i m doing every day. thank you, governor for being with us. we wanted to check in and greatly appreciate your time. come on down and have some great fishing. i m going to. they apparently jump in your boat. i will go fishing with you, governor, thank you so much. all right. those beaches ted, have you been to those beaches? i don t know florida that well. north florida, seriously froç panamasi to perdito key, panama city to perdito key, i promise you, they re unspoiled, not like a lot of other places that have grown up, interesting
oil spill. a lot of us in northwest florida are asking, what s changed? it s kind of like wall street. willie read a story earlier we had this environmental disaster. you wonder whether washington even responded. i think there s truth to that. drilling is going up again, not clear how much regulation has been added and how safe it is, no results from investigations or at least not ones that have been published and widely acted on. on the other hand, the good news is the tourists are coming back and beaches weren t destroyed in northwest florida as most people thought they were. i think it s actually not as bad as wall street because i think wall street is starting their own disaster. i tell you what with northwest florida, the biggest challenge is pr. people think oil lapped up on the beach. i think we had one day we had a couple of tar balls go up on the beach.
gasoline engines, plug-in hybrids, hybrids or full electric vehicles which we re introducing. i just love the idea of plugging in my car like the cell phone. we re so used to doing that at night with our cell phones and óu blackberries. you know, the amazing thing is, though, and you re exactly right. there s a bureaucracy not just at ford but in detroit as well. and we ve read about this for years. mark will be too nice to say this, but a lot of inbreeding going on in the car companies in detroit. people were born into the business. they stayed there. and it took ford having the guts to bring in an outsider and say man, turn the tables over in the temple and make this change. it s been remarkable. it s been a remarkable story. i m a ford guy. i converted over about 15 years ago. i ve got a ford escape hybrid. and it s an incredible car. and it s really well done. i wouldn t buy any foreign car.
the sacrifice. how much longer are we going to focus, ted, rebuilding other countries and spending billions and trillions of dollars in war. the united states military, we spend more money on our military than all the other countries. a lot of americans saying focus on rebuilding schools, focus on rebuilding in fa structure. let s refocus on the environment. the investment, take it from fighting wars in afghanistan for 20 years to working on, for instance, green energy. the difference is huge. i guess when you take money away from wars or all these things we re saying are not the right area to be spending money, you re also taking away jobs, and then saying we want to put this money over here and create jobs over here. so these people are losing their jobs must be saying, no, don t and lobbying very hard to keep their jobs.
focusing on customers. it s just magic. and we re very fortunate. and we re going to keep our heads down and keep hopefully going forward. in time for the auto show. yeah. we re here at the new york auto show. we re introducing the new ford taurus which we re going to announce today that our taurus is going to get up to 31 miles perç gallon. full-size sedan. and the commercial continues. that looks pretty good. but it does! by the way, mark, you could ask anybody that s been here, if you guys grew up, we re going to bring you back and savage you. i can recommend a lot of dealers. very good. no doubt about it. you can check out your ford.
