really plummeted after his debut. it s very hard for a democrat or a republican to successfully craft the equal message. oh, absolutely. they re standing in what can never be as great a setting, somewhere off to the side, as opposed to the president who s there in a magisterial setting in front of all of congress. and the only rebuttals that are really remembered are the ones that fail, such as bobby jindal famously did. probably wise for him. i think you re right, as chris christie is trying to keep his ambitions at least appearing low for now. probably wiser of him to resist this temptation. and by using paul ryan, it certainly shows what their emphasis is, budget cuts, budget cuts, and the deficit. thank you so much, anne kornblut, have a great weekend. thanks for joining us. and that does it for this edition of andrea mitchell reports. and monday on the joe, john heileman on his new book, the making of the president.
change the subject to israel s suspected nuclear arsenal and u.s. military bases in iraq. refusing to deal with its ownure and yun enrichment program. the president s speech today is it a peek at how the president plans to address the unemployment issue at the state of the union next week. past two years were about pulling our economy back from the brink. the next two years, our job now, is putting our economy into overdrive. our job is to do everything we can to insure the businesses can take root and folks can find good jobs and america is leading the global competition that will determine our success in the 21st century. mark moriale joins me now. mr. mayor, thank you so much for joining us. were you able to watch the president and see the way he is turning? what do you think? what is your verdict on the new approach from the white house?
it should really be a year round jobs program. look, when we put people to work, it s a hedge against crime. when we put people to work, it stimules the economy. i think that this year there ought to be a focus on jobs but a special focus on those communities where the unemployment rates are indeed the highest. so we would encourage people to follow us, the national urban league, our 12-point jobs plan. we look forward to working with president obama and his new economic team as well as with members of congress. we need a focus on jobs this year. job creation, job growth, job training, job placement. and the urban league is ready to work on this. i want to get your reaction to conference call that jim claiborne had today with reporters. he is calling for a ten 2030 program that 10% of the recovery money be spent in communities with a 20% that have had a 20%
