USDA has its work cut out for them in formulating proposed changes to bring the right equilibrium back to the federal milk marketing order in balancing dairy producers’ and processors’ wish list of changes as presented over the last seven weeks during the comprehensive FMMO hearing.
Dairy producers and market participants will be sharing testimony starting Aug. 23 on a wide range of proposals for USDA as it considers updates to the federal milk marketing order.
The National Milk Producers Federation made quick work of its search for a new top executive, announcing today its selection of Gregg Doud to be its next president and CEO.
USDA wants to hear more information from dairy industry stakeholders in response to the National Milk Producers Federation petition request to amend five provisions of the federal milk marketing order, as well as additional a more narrowed request from the International Dairy Foods Association and Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association, with a pre-hearing information session planned for Friday, June 16.
The ball is now in USDA’s court on how to proceed with differing requests from dairy producers and processors on fixing what each believes are issues within the Federal Milk Marketing Order system.
