Meat Loaf paid tribute to his longtime collaborator Jim Steinman with a short post to Facebook. Coming here soon, my brother Jimmy. Fly Jimmy fly, the singer wrote. His words were accompanied by a selection of photographs of the two from throughout their career (see below).
Steinman died on Monday at age 73. the songwriter and producer s partnership with Meat Loaf born Michael Lee Aday spanned more than 40 years, beginning with the singer s 1977 debut album,
Bat Out of Hell, which Steinman wrote entirely. The high-octane, theatrical album spawned several FM rock staples, including You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night ) and Paradise by the Dashboard Light, and was certified 14x platinum by the RIAA.
Jim is best known for writing
MEAT LOAF s best stuff . . . including his 1977 album Bat Out of Hell and its 1993 follow-up Bat Out of Hell 2: Back Into Hell .
He also wrote hit singles for other artists . . . like It s All Coming Back to Me Now by
Celine Dion,
Air Supply, and Total Eclipse of the Heart . Bat Out of Hell took a while to catch on, but once it did, it blew up. It sold tens of millions of copies and is near the top of pretty much every list of best-selling albums.
In 2017, Jim turned Bat Out of Hell 2 into a stage musical.

The man behind the iconic album Bat Out of Hell and songs including Total Eclipse of the Heart has died. The multi-talented songwriter, producer and composer passed away on Monday 19th April aged 73 - and Meat Loaf, Bonnie Tyler and Celine Dion have shared their sorrow in losing the musical legend.
Steinman was to thank for Meat Loaf’s smash-hit selling trilogy of albums. The star wrote sweetly on Facebook: “Coming here soon, My brother Jimmy. Fly Jimmy Fly.”
The composer also wrote Holding Out for a Hero for Bonnie Tyler plus 1983 s Faster Than the Speed of Night and 1986 s Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire.

Meat Loaf paid homage to Steinman with a brief, enigmatic message on his Facebook page that reads, Coming here soon, My Brother Jimmy. Fly Jimmy Fly. The post also features several of vintage photos of Jim, a couple of which shown him alongside Meat Loaf. Steinman, of course, frequently collaborated with the singer, and wrote his entire classic
Bat Out of Hell and
Bat Out of Hell II albums.
Steinman also was responsible for writing Tyler s 1983 chart-topper Total Eclipse of the Heart and Dion s 1996 smash It s All Coming Back to Me Now, among many other hit songs.
