shots and fever related seizures in children? the feds are investigating. in fact, the food and drug administration is reporting 36 confirmed cases of seizures. and all of them in children age six months to two years old. and all occurring within one day of their vaccination with flu zone. according to the f.d.a., flu zone is the only flu vaccine recommended for infants and young children in the united states this season. laura ingle with the news now. laura, had this is the disturbing look at, you know? it is indeed. a lot of worried parents out there. 10 of those 36 children had to be hospitalized after those seizures. but, happy to report all have since recovered with no evidence of lasting harm. still, investigators are the f.d.a. want to make sure that every batch of the widely used flu vaccine is safe. the reported fee brill seizures are brought on by fev which the f.d.a. says can occur with any common childhood illnesses, ear infection, cold and
influenza and may not be flu zone related. this vaccine and how it is made has not changed in decades. so billions of people have received this type of vaccine safely. the maker of the flu zone released a statement to fox news earlier today which reads in part, quote: the f.d.a. still recommends giving flu shots to children. comes as the f.d.a. has been working on disclosing more information about any potential safety problems with drugs and devices after they have been approved. the f.d.a. investigation follows the agency s close monitoring of seizure reports in australia and new zealand where there have been an unusual higher rate of children suffering from seizures
investigation into those 36 reported cases to determine if there is a link between the shots and the seizures. right now. flu zone is only flu shot recommended by the fda for children between six and 23 months old. i don t want to hear people oh there is potential complication for vaccines. very bad conclusion. vaccines are safe. we re investigating this. if there is connection, let s remove those patches. the maker of flue zone sanofi pasteur, sent a statement which reads in point at this point no correlation between influenza and vaccine and seizures has been. they are working closely with the fda in the investigation. while the fda works to see if there is a possible link the agency recommends the use of flu zone in children.
