even as it worked north. look at st. augustine, jacksonville, the carolina coast which is charleston, savannah, all those areas. still getting that pull of the strong west wind right against the coastline. so that pushes water up against shore. then the center of the storm still moving up raining 6, 9, 12 inches of rain. so all that rain has to go somewhere but it can t wash out into the atlantic where it should. because it s like creating a dam, a wall where the water can t get out into the ocean, can t drain. so every one of those communities, storm surge, blocked from draining, additional foot of rain in some places. just inundated that northwestern corner of florida. to levels they haven t seen before. and very few people would have had the forethought to say, hey, this storm will hold together to where when the center of this storm is making its way into south georgia, the effects are still pouring water up against the coast of north florida. a really difficult situation for every
itself. but we re looking for our children and our grandchildren to be able to live in a place that we love and cherish, and we want to work with the climate. and we want to be able to not master, but adapt to the change. because it s an old story. mother nature bats last. hello, i remember map. right. we really need this is a wake-up call i think for everyone here. and i think it s a wake-up call for the state of florida. and i think as we move, you know, hopefully we don t have to have too many of these wake-up calls to make those adjustments. but gosh. will it wake up you have a governor who literally said and told people not to use the phrase climate change in the state s planning apparatus, right? yeah. is it going to wake him up? you know, that might have been i don t know why that was said because he is a highly intelligent man. and what he has done in mobilizing for this storm and how yeah, he has done a very impressive job.

to the normal life as quickly as possible. so we have a lot of work to do. but everybody is going to come together. we re going to get this state rebuilt. and this state is a state of strong resilient people. and we re going to get our jobs back and help build our companies again and then get this all cleaned up and hopefully get more tourists back in our state and get everybody back. now i ll turn it over to the major. i want to thank the governor for always being on site and the opportunity to show him some of the areas that were impacted heavily, the rescues happening yesterday, where there s damage in areas, we need to be rebuilding and clean up. we knew that this was going to be a major weather event, even when it shifted west. you all covered it. you heard us say it, this was going to be serious. what does serious bring? what mother nature brings, whether it is tornadoes, wind or flooding. this time, we woke up yesterday to a category 3 hurricane storm surge and tropical storm.
