either kind of desantis or his supporters are going to decide qualifies as woke, and this doesn t just this starts in elementary school but it really goes through every element of the florida education system. i have been reporting on their attempt to, you know, sort of the wholesale transformation of one of florida s most progressive public colleges which they re now trying to transform into a bastion of conservatism in florida so it s very much the political agenda there is not beneath the surface and finally i think it s important to see that people who are working with desantis see florida as a template for the nation both in terms of other state legislatures copying these laws and, you know, possibly desantis trying to enact them nationally if he ever became president. yeah, that makes sense. i mean, that s why so much of this, andrea, is sort of it feels like prop work in the same
selling and then the rapidly developing clash in washington as we re getting new details about what the true republican agenda may be in the congress or in the people running for president. there are prominent conservatives that are reviving an idea long left for dead and interesting one that barack obama himself warned about on the midterm campaign trail. the idea, bringing back what was once a bush era plan to change or gut social security. the president tonight we re told will say much more about how he plans to reshape social security. the system is headed toward bankruptcy. i earned capital in the campaign, political capital. strengthen it, improve it, do not privatize it. even though some consider it, some the third rail of american politics. some are afraid to touch it. some don t want to touch it. some provide excuses not to touch it. times columnist michelle goldberg. andrea, welcome to you. thank you, ari. what s happening literally in these classrooms? so, what s happening in duvall county classrooms is that our district is struggling and racing to comply with legislature that has been passed. on the surface this appears to be for what s in the best interest of students not having important graphic materials or materials that s not age appropriate for students. there are some other specifics, as well. but when you start to look a bit deeper, it really is causing so much chaos because every district has been told to come up with their own system for vetting these books. the books have to be vetted by a certified media specialist. our district is very short on those. my school, for example, has a part-time person.
