The MLK Celebration for Florida Daytona Beach is canceling its banquet and other events due to the coronavirus pandemic but will still award scholarships and is looking for additional sponsors, an official said.
The pandemic also caused the non-profit organization, which awards scholarships to high school seniors in Volusia County, to cancel its march on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, on January 18, said Kim Brown-Crawford, the treasurer and secretary of the MLK Celebration for Florida Daytona Beach.
The annual MLK celebration also includes a prayer breakfast on Martin Luther King Jr. Day but the breakfast has also been canceled due to COVID, she said.
