It is a powerful category four hurricane and it is slamming southern florida at this hour, with in some cases 130 Miles Per Hour winds. As you might expect, Power Outages are really widespread, hundreds of thousands of people are without power and we are hearing about more of those with each passing hour. Thats right. In all, more than 7 Million People have been evacuated in florida and also in georgia. More than 400 shelters are now open. Talking to dave price and the latest forecast or update on the storm, Hurricane Force winds up to 80 miles. Tropical Storm Force Winds up to 220 miles outside the eye of that storm. Thats a big area. I just had a briefing with the national hurrine center in all flida counties. Monroe county has reported that water is going over u. S. 1. Hurricane irma made landfall in the florida keys at 9 10 a. M. As a category 4 storm. The i of thipowerful storm is w 80 miles south of naples and approaching the naplesfour miles area and will in naplesfort myers area. Lets get the very latest now on the storm. It has been battering the florida keys all morning long. But its center just made official landfall there at 9 10 a. M. Eastern time. Utility officials in florida now say more than 1 million customers have lost power as irma has hammered that state. That number is expected to keep rising throughout whats going to be a long day down there. And to give you an idea how big the storm is, a Tropical Storm warning was just issued for atlanta, georgia. Are sustained probably just below Hurricane Force when you get to the top of the building, because they dont have anything to stop it. The other angle is the wind and the rain, just horizontal sheets of rain battering here in the brickell section of miami. Well have to take a look when we go over the bridge to see what kind of impact the water is having downtown. The water is coming right off the river into downtown miami. Look at this wave action here, this is like a noreaster off the coast of new england. Ive seen waves like that, but not an inland water way. This is not the open waters of the atlantic. Gosh knows what the waves look like out there on miami beach. This is quite the visual that weve had all morning here. And for safety reasons, were going to be packing up here and heading to Higher Ground so we can get out of harms way. The surge is starting to come up, were expecting about a five foot surge. Weve seen the water ramp up, we want to be safe. Later this afternoon the wi
