The Regency Square mall site is scheduled to begin vaccinating Florida residents as young as 16 by Monday, marking the start of a new front in Northeast Florida s battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
The move forms one part of the vaccine expansion announced in late March under Gov. Ron DeSantis. On March 25, following multiple days of vaccination numbers that fell well below available supply, the governor reduced the age cutoff for vaccination to 40 for that week, with a further drop to age 18 to take effect on April 5.
That initially left some confusion about the eligibility of those age 16 and 17. However, starting Monday, residents age 16 and 17 are now confirmed eligible to start receiving COVID-19 vaccinations, and on Friday, Regency was officially announced among the sites providing those vaccinations for older teenagers.
