The Provincial Veterinary (ProVet) of Antique, the Philippines, has warned local hog raisers against errant traders offering to buy their hogs at a lower price due to a suspected case of African swine fever (ASF) that was reported in the municipality of Hamtic.
ILOILO CITY – Suspected cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) emerged in Hamtic, Antique province after a number of pigs died in eight barangays in the municipality.

SAN JOSE, Antique, May 25 (PIA) - - The Department of Trade and Industry and the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian enjoined sellers both in stores and online as well the consumers to be vigilant against African Swine Fever (ASF) virus.
DTI Antique Supervising Trade and Industry Development Specialist Engr. Lynna Joy Cardinal, during the PIA radio program, emphasized to the general public that their vigilance could mean a lot for the protection of the swine industry in the province.
Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Florencio Macuja, in the same interview, called on the local officials to be alert and watchful on the vendors/merchants in their barangay/ municipality to ensure unscrupulous traders are apprehended.
