Florence School District Four s Board of Trustees held a workshop Tuesday in an effort to get the community involved as the district is scheduled to consolidate with Florence One School in July of 2022.
More than a dozen community members showed up wearing orange in solidarity.
Among the topics discussed Tuesday, the board s spokesperson, Dr. Gary Burgess, presented an option of turning the Florence School Four s three schools into public charter schools.
He said that would allow the town to keep the high school open, not worry about having a high enrollment, and put some power back in the community. However, he said keeping the schools public is their first priority.
