time of the shooting. and it really you have to see and wait we ll learn from the police about their response. and what they had to deal with when they found the shooter after he went floor to floor shooting. right now essentially what we know is that this was on multiple floors. lots of victims and we wait to learn more. thank you very much. standby. cnn is now with us. i understand new information on the killer. now by phone. what have you learned? i have been with virginia officials across the board for the last hour. since the shooting. and much of what we have seen from the press conference took place. a state of shock. and it appears virginia beach is a law enforcement agency that is spearheading this effort. the most extensive information we have heard on the shooter he is a disgruntled employee.
operations building of the city, the public works area. so it is probably some of the utility workers, some of the road workers, some of the other folks who really keep the city running perhaps. these were the victims. these were the people inside this building. there was a school administration building next door as well. they were placed on lockdown. there was a courthouse nearby as well attached to this building. it is really the nerve center it sounds like of the city, of virginia beach where this shooting took place. you know, when you look at what time this happened, this happened just after 4:00. it was towards the end of the day, so people perhaps were getting ready to leave, but it is sounding like there were a lot of people in the building at the time of the shooting, and you really have to see and wait we ll learn, i guess, from the police about their response and what they had to deal with when they found the shooter, finally after he went floor to floor shooting. but rig
where i actually had people grabbing me and pulling me to cover when i was directing people to do certain things in a live fire zone. so it s reaction. it s not training that tells you to get up and do that. it s taking charge. it s leadership. it s courage. that s what these cops are all about. how do we stop this? we have a guy on the 32nd floor shooting at people facing the other direction. we don t see him. he s 1,100 feet away. you take the lessons that the secret service has used and they have a lot more resources, but that s when you look at. what are the angles for fire? you strike that view. so you can t have that easy access to the crowd. can you sense when a bullet is fired? there are acoustic-sensing devices. is there counter sniper capabilities?
