The recent spate of landslides and road collapses in Himachal Pradesh has led geologists to warn that care should be taken while clearing road widening projects and building flyovers in the hills.
Himachal Pradesh rains: CM Sukhu said that the administration identified the risk and successfully evacuated the buildings two days before they collapsed.
Since the onset of monsoon in the hill state on June 24, 154 persons have died so far in rain-related incidents such as landslides, flash floods and cloudbursts, besides road accidents, according to the Himachal Pradesh State Emergency Response Centre
The road blockade has resulted in traffic jams on both sides. Hundreds of stranded tourists who could not get accommodation in guest houses and hotels were compelled to spend the night in their vehicles.
