Increase in showers for Maui and the Big Island; Maui Flood Advisory until 8:30 a m : Maui Now

The National Weather Service has extended the Flood Advisory for Maui until 11:30 a.m. At 8:25 a.m., radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain over eastern and southern portions of Maui. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. The NWS reports some locations that will experience flooding include: Kahului, Kīhei, Kula, Kēōkea, Pukalani, Makawao, Hāliʻimaile, Keʻanae, Huelo, Haʻikū-Paʻuwela, Kaupō, Kīpahulu, ʻUlupalakua, Wailea, Nāhiku, Paʻuwela, Pāʻia, Mākena, Puʻunēnē and Māʻalaea.

Kona low brings continued threat of rain, Flash Flood Watch continues : Maui Now

A kona low west of the islands will bring a continued threat for heavy rain and flooding along with isolated thunderstorms today, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS reports that conditions will gradually improve over the weekend with stable trade wind weather expected for the first half of next week.

Kona low continues to bring unsettled weather: Flood Warning for East Maui : Maui Now

The National Weather Service has extended the Flash Flood Warning for the island of Maui until 12:30 p.m. At 9:19 a.m., radar showed heavy rain continuing over the east and southeast slopes of Haleakalā. The highest rain rates were 1 to 2 inches between Keʻanae and Hāna.

A kona low west of the islands continues to threaten the state with the potential for heavy rain and thunderstorms. A Flood Watch remains in effect until Thursday afternoon for the entire state. There is also a Winter Weather Advisory in effect through Thursday morning for the Big Island summits.
