Lorraine Hodsdon describes the experience of establishing a chief nurse junior fellowship programme at Great Ormond Street Hospital For Children NHS Foundation Trust
In 2019 I was awarded a Florence Nightingale Leadership Scholarship. The scholarships are designed to create opportunities for one to explore and further develop one’s leadership style, through a personal development plan and senior nursing support, helping them to continually stretch and develop leadership potential during and after the year-long scholarship comes to an end.
As part of the programme I was required to undertake a leadership project in my chosen area. My heart is firmly embedded in the world of clinical research and initially this was the area I thought my project would focus on. At interview when the project was discussed, I was strongly advised to think differently and do something that had nothing to do with research; I needed to move out of my comfort zone
