A proposed new subdivision in west Alachua County is one step closer to development after preliminary approval from one board. Following Thursday s development review committee recommendation to approve the plan with conditions, it will be considered for final approval by the board of county commissioners.  Laureate Village, on Southwest 143rd Street, south of Southwest Eighth Avenue, would eventually comprise 500 residences, a village center and trails if developed. In its first phase, 54 single-family residential lots on about 30 acres would be constructed.  The property is currently undeveloped, contains pine and other trees and is home to wildlife including gopher tortoises and wild turkeys.
