brown jackson as the courts new term begins tomorrow. i am jonathan capehart, this is the sunday show. this sunday, residents and relief workers are on rescue missions, coping through the rubble as floridians grapple through the trauma and devastation left by hurricane ian. water came up to about here. when it got to there, the way they were saying on the news i thought it would eventually go over our heads. i called my daughters and i said goodbye. it was very traumatic. i went into the water and save three people. i lost one friend, i couldn t savor. she got washed away. the devastation is unbelievable. i was a paramedic fireman for 25 years. it is just unbelievable. nbc news has confirmed at least 77 deaths have been caused by ian and florida and north carolina. more than 800,000 floridians and tens of thousands in the carolinas remain without power. creating a new facet of this emergency. some hospitals in the area now scrambling to evacuate critically ill patient
todd: hurricane ian plowing through western cuba yesterday knocking out power to the entire country and devastating the most important tobacco farms in the country used to produce cuba s iconic cigars. you are watching fox and friends first, i m todd piro. carley: i m carley shimkus, our reporters are live across florida this morning, we begin with senior meteorologist, janice dean who is tracking it from our studio. janice: they just upped the winds, that is a strong category four storm, the pressure has dropped by 10 millibars. it is strengthen as it approaches the coast, we r expecting landfall this afternoon. heightened awareness to the storm surge and for hours it will batter the coast and interior sections of florida. rain and wind and storm surge will impact coast of florida and inland will flood two-story homes at the coast. you don t have time, you can hide from the wind, you have to run from the storm surge. wind gusts in excess of 100 mile per hour for dura
now hitting south florida and the storm s eye is off of cuba s coast moving into the warm waters which means the storm could grow and get for powerful. it hit werp cuba hard overnight with winds and heavy rain just at-battering the island. the forecast models have it projected to make landfall in tampa bay as a major hurricane. storm surge is one of the biggest threats from the storm. and as much as two feet of rain could be falling in some parts of florida from this. officials there saying right now they are urging people into the storm s path to make the final presentations and of course to get out before it is too late. let s start with cnn s meteorologist chad myers tracking this for us. what is the latest. it does look like the 11:00 advisory has brought this storm a little bit farther to the south. we re still waiting for what we call the discussion. all of the words that they use to describe what their reason was, what the meaning is, where this is going from here. s
