Subscriber only Airport authorities repeatedly told the public a new runway would fix noise issues by directing most flights over Moreton Bay, despite now saying tail winds make that too dangerous. Australia’s independent Aircraft Noise Ombudsman will investigate links between a huge increase in noise complaints and new flight paths over Brisbane after the July opening of the new parallel runway.
Ombudsman Kieran Pehm confirmed on Friday that in the new year, his office would investigate the major increase in noise complaints linked to Brisbane Airport.
Twenty Brisbane residents made 63 complaints about aircraft noise in November 2008, while 46 people made 164 complaints last month.
