Black History Month looked a little different in Jacksonville schools this year.
That s because 2021 marked the first time since the coronavirus pandemic struck that celebrations would have to be altered to accommodate social distancing, some students not being on campus at all and even school closures.
Still, teachers and faculty found ways to get creative. On Thursday, Duval Schools sent the Times-Union examples of Black History Month celebrations special to specific schools and classes. Here s a roundup:
1. Landmark Middle School
Landmark Middle hosted a week-long celebration including spirit days to wear African attire, HBCU apparel and even a Converse and pearls day in tribute to the first Black woman to hold higher office: Vice President Kamala Harris.
