h.w. bush, which gave him pause. in his eyes if you go out there and say we re going to start this massive trade war and then you get china to come to the table and give you a couple of things, that s how this president likes to negotiate. he may be learning that it s possible to sort of pull stunts like that and be able to at least achieve some things you can cast as victories without just showing up at these events and needling your allies and essentially becoming this pariah at events like the g20. he avoided any serious problems. we saw putin high fiving the saudi arabia or side fiving mohammed bin salman. the president did not. they had a brief encounter, exchanged pleasantries. he ran into putin at a dinner and the president made it clear i don t like what s happening at ukraine. sometimes he steps in quick sand at these events. didn t happen here. i think the president realizes he has a lot of problems and wanted to avoid having more. to the earlier point, these
not going to have. i think in this case, probably not the worst decision for them since he was absolutely not going to intend or put himself into a position where he had to be strong or stern with either leader. what do you think? okay, true. you make the case that the administration does that you still meet with world leaders when terrible things happen like say putin meddling directly in the u.s. election or russia taking over ukraine. you make the case you still need to maintain the relationship then suddenly you cancel a meeting right after the news comes out of mueller investigati investigation. it s little odd and this could have been a chance to do something stronger than came out of helsinki. we saw the two leaders they shared a very warm greeting today. they were high fiving each other with a lot of smiles. what do you make of that?
the south side. they wand they want a rallying cry. the superintendent marching with the protesters? i assume they knew it was going to come off today. reporter: they thought they were never going to step out here. at first the state police said they were going the arrest protesters who came out here. you saw the superintendent of the police. they had a conversation. they decided the take to the street. think never had a confrontation between the officers and the protesters. they decided to open up the roadway. we saw some of the protesters high-fiving with the officers. they re frustrated about guns. they want to see more presence in the neighborhood. if you look over here, there are the officers. they re out of the way. it sort of worked out as a win/win for everyone. peaceful protest on interstate 94 in chicago over stopping gun violence.
