Fossils: Scientists unearth the remains of an ancient SKUNK in Chile from 74 million years ago

Share According to University of Chile palaeontologist Sergio Soto, such discoveries are critical to completing the evolutionary puzzle of the group of long-extinct early mammals called Gondwanatheria . This and other discoveries that we are going to make known in the future are revealing that there is enormous potential in terms of palaeontology in the southern tip of Chile, said Dr Soto. We are finding things that we did not expect to find and that are going to help us answer a lot of questions that we had for a long time about dinosaurs, mammals and other groups. O. tzen is thought to been a herbivore and lived around 72–74 million years ago, during the Late Cretaceous making it a contemporary of the dinosaurs. Pictured: the mammal s teeth
