Tuesday, May 11, 2021 With the global gaming industry valued at USD 159 billion in 2020 and expected to grow in 2021, The University of the West Indies, Five Islands Campus will explore the business of e-Sports in the next edition of its Public Advocacy Series. The May virtual event, which takes place on Monday May 17, will feature two international industry leaders, Dr. Melita Moore and Mr. Eric Elder.
Dr. Melita Moore is a quadruple board certified physician and an international leader on health and wellness for gamers in the field of eSports Medicine. She is the CEO/Founder of Levels Unlocked Enterprises, a brand, marketing and communications firm focused on esports, sports and health.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, has reached out to Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, assuring that the university stands ready to mobilise any additional support needed in the wake of the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano.
In a release, the university said the scientific experts of the UWI Seismic Research Centre (UWI-SRC) have been deployed on the island since December 2020 when activity on the volcano was first detected. Over the past few months, scientific teams have been in rotation, providing ongoing monitoring and updates to Gonsalves, and working closely with the country’s National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) and offering the critical science data to help the government and its agencies in shaping public policy and response plans.

Christopher was victorious in the recently held Guild elections and will be leading an all-female council when her tenure begins on June 1.
Speaking to Observer on the impact of the pandemic, Christopher said the many changes made – including the shift to online learning – will improve access to a wider cross-section of people.

Over the past few weeks the University of the West Indies (UWI), has been assessing its performance as part of a regular exercise, through a series of presentations from its various campuses.
Culminating with the March 26 presentation by the Five Islands Campus, the Councils that govern the UWI campuses heard how the regional University has fared favourably over the 2019-2020 academic year, according to a release.
In the face of increasing challenges crippling Caribbean economies and the global higher education sector, intensified by COVID-19, the regional University has responded to support emergency online learning across its territories, helped Caribbean governments fight the pandemic, increased access to education, built strategic partnerships and overall created value for the region.
