Lobby Claims East Coast Weather Makes for Ideal Site
UK – One of the major disadvantages of Britain s east coast ports has always been the weather. The storms which sweep in from across the North Sea often hold up operations while the more sheltered facilities in places such as the River Thames can work on uninterrupted.
Now however it seems those easterly gales are being looked to for a source of new income by the partners involved in touting their application for a new Freeport East which centres on the ports of Felixstowe and Harwich. George Kieffer, Chairman of the Freeport East Project Board, explained:

The southern North Sea is the most densely populated area for offshore wind projects, home to 52% of the UK’s entire operational fleet with more developments planned.
“Securing Freeport status will help attract additional investment in this vital sector, helping to regenerate an area in need of levelling-up and delivering on government’s targets for net-zero emissions.”
