A GROUP of “mermaids” swims regularly at Fishermans Beach, Mornington, to gain the benefits of cold water swimming, increase exercise levels, revel in companionship and simply enjoy the fun of getting together in the water.
Afterwards, of course, they enjoy a coffee and a chat at a nearby cafe.
Mornington Peninsula Mermaids are a group of women of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds who have swum at 7am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays since early January.
Three men were swept into the sea at the popular rock fishing spot known as Hill 60 on Friday evening, the same location where three men drowned three weeks ago.
One man is dead and another is critical after being swept off rocks at Port Kembla this evening at the same location where three men drowned three weeks ago.
Emergency services rushed to Fishermans Beach after they received reports three men were swept into the sea just before 7pm on Friday near Hill 60.
Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District along with the Toll Rescue Helicopter crew, Surf Lifesaving IRB crew, and Highway Patrol attended the scene and began searching for the men.

About ten ambulances rushed to the scene to provide assistance to seven people.
