A WOMAN from East Lancashire has been awarded a prestigious Inns of Court scholarship that will allow her to train to become a barrister. Sasha Lowe, 22, from Colne, was awarded the scholarship thanks to her intellectual ability, motivation to succeed and her potential as an advocate. Miss Lowe, who attended Fisher More High School and Nelson and Colne College before studying law at the University of Law, Leeds, will now complete her barrister practice course with all her fees paid for by Middle Temple, one of the four Inns of Court in London which is entitled to call members to the bar.

A Burnley mum of two, who has given up booze for a year, thought her luck was in when she won a competition, until she found out the prize was a £100 bottle of champagne!

The irony of winning the bottle of Bollinger Special Cuvée, with two champagne flutes, was not lost on Rachael Batson.
And while she could have saved it to pop the cork and toast the end of her year going sober, Rachael has decided to raffle the bottle off to help add to the funds she is raising for MIND, a charity that provides support, help and counselling for anyone struggling to cope.
