LEETONIA Water and sewer customers will see an increase in rates beginning with their February bill.
Village Council Wednesday night approved the second readings of legislation raising the minimum and usage sewer rate plus adding a service fee to both the sewer and water capital funds as emergencies. The changes will take effect on the February bills for January usage.
The pieces of legislation raises the minimum sewer rate to $27.95 per month and set the usage rate at $3.97 for each 1,000 gallons over 1,000; and creates a $2.50 monthly service fee for each the sewer and water capital funds specifically for improvements to the water and sewer lines and systems.

LEETONIA Council Wednesday night did not act on legislation for sewer and water rate increases after a previous proposal was removed from consideration.
Mayor Kevin Siembida said he has amended the rate increase proposal presented earlier this month based on feedback from community members.
Council previously authorized Village Solicitor Walter Newton to draft legislation raising the minimum sewer rate to $27.95 per month and set the usage rate at $3.97 for each 1,000 gallons over 1,000. The legislation would also have included a $2.50 service fee for each the sewer and water capital funds specifically for improvements to the water and sewer lines and system.
