FirstEnergy customers are furious at the former utility company executives who raised their bills to allegedly fund the largest bribery scheme in Ohio history especially as they pleaded not guilty.
The West Virginia House of Delegates Energy and Manufacturing Committee approved a bill, on Feb. 14, 2024, that would allow a tax credit for operating environmental pollution control equipment at coal-fired plants. House Bill 5522 would apply to electric utility-controlled plants.
FirstEnergy has cited West Virginia energy policy as a key obstacle causing it to abandon its greenhouse gas reduction target for 2030. The utility says its target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions 30% by 2030 from a 2019 baseline depended on a “meaningful reduction in operation” at its Harrison and Fort Martin power stations that hasn t materialized.
