Suffolk County police search for elderly woman missing in Copiague for more than week

COPIAGUE, Suffolk County (WABC) Police in Suffolk County found the body of an elderly woman on Sunday. Ann Costa, 88, was last seen at her home on Mariners Way on January 13 at around 3 p.m. Her family says that hers is the body that police recovered. Costa was last seen wearing a bathrobe. She had no known medical issues. Her family says that police and detectives had been searching for her with helicopters and boats. Costa s body was found on an island in the Great South Bay at approximately 8:10 a.m. At this time, detectives believe the woman s death was non-criminal in nature.

She was then pronounced dead on the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

According to Suffolk police, a woman opened the side door of her Nicolls Road home at about 9:55 a.m. to retrieve a package from a man whom she thought was a legitimate delivery driver. The man, who was armed with a handgun, forced his way into the home and stole cash and checks. Subscribe The woman, her husband and a home health aide were inside the home at the time. No one was injured. Police say the thief was carrying a box, but not wearing a uniform.
