FOLLOW US ON: Launched in July last year, the UAE’s unmanned probe ‘Al-Amal’, which means hope in Arabic, entered Mars orbit on Tuesday. This is the Arab world’s first mission to Mars. On July 20, 2020, the unmanned probe lifted off from Japan’s Tanegashima Space Centre. After travelling for nearly seven months and covering a distance of roughly 500-million kilometres, the probe managed the rare feat of entering Mars orbit. The Mars mission is one of the many projects under the UAE’s (United Arab Emirates) ambitious space programme, which plans to send an unmanned rover to Moon by
