7 Months, 500-million kms, 121,000 kmph: UAE’s Hope Probe Checks into Mars Orbit

The probe will help scientists get a clear picture about Mars atmosphere, all through a 687-day long Martian year. It, however, will not land on Mars surface.

Launched in July last year, the UAE’s unmanned probe ‘Al-Amal’, which means hope in Arabic, entered Mars orbit on Tuesday. This is the Arab world’s first mission to Mars.
On July 20, 2020, the unmanned probe lifted off from Japan’s Tanegashima Space Centre. After travelling for nearly seven months and covering a distance of roughly 500-million kilometres, the probe managed the rare feat of entering Mars orbit.
