At least six people have been fined in Dowa for buying farm produce using uncertified weighing scales.
Dowa First Magistrate Court sentenced the six to pay K60, 000 fine each or in default to serve 2 months in Prison for the offense they committed.
The six have been identified as convicts Langton John, 36, Kondwani Giniva, 36, Ganizani Yohane, 28, Mabvuto Katengeza, 42, Snedi Jeffrey, 26, Mbedze James, 27 and Lambat Mukiza, 24.
They were arrested after they were found buying farm produce mainly Soya beans and groundnuts contrary to Section 21 of the Malawi Bureau of Standards.
The convicts have since paid the fines while the weighing scales have been forfeited to the Malawi government.
