ABOITIZ Power Corp. said that it plans to use its existing Cleanergy portfolio and other renewable energy (RE) projects in the pipeline for the country’s green energy option program (GEOP), its top official said on Wednesday.
“For GEOP, we intend to use our existing Cleanergy capacities from our hydro, geothermal, and solar assets. We also have more renewable energy projects in our pipeline that we can allocate to GEOP and even to other RE markets like GEAP (green energy auction program),” AboitizPower President and Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel V. Rubio told
BusinessWorld through the firm’s media relations department in an e-mail on Wednesday.

Three retail electricity suppliers (RES) under Aboitiz Power Corporation and one under Citicore Power, Inc. were added to the Department of Energy’s (DOE) list of participants under its Green Energy Option Program (GEOP).
AboitizPower RES firms now included in the list are Aboitiz Energy Solutions, Inc., which caters to corporate clients, and AdventEnergy, Inc., which serves end-users within economic zones specifically using renewable energy.
Also in the GEOP list is Prism Energy, Inc., a joint venture 60% owned by Aboitiz and 40% owned by Vivant Corporation catering to contestable customers in Cebu. AboitizPower and Vivant also jointly own the Visayan Electric Company, the country’s second-largest power distributor, which serves most areas in Metro Cebu.

FIRST GEN Corp. said Wednesday that it will make available around 690 megawatts (MW) of geothermal power for the green energy option program (GEOP).
âPrimarily, our participation will be through our geothermal plants â Bacman Geothermal in Luzon (with) 140 megawatts (MW); Unified Leyte (plants) in Visayas⦠(of around 400 or 450 megawatts); in Mindanao, Mt. Apo Geothermal at 100 megawatts,â First Gen Vice-President for Power Marketing, Trading and Economics Carlos Lorenzo L. Vega said at a webinar hosted by the non-governmental organization Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology.
â(Our planned capacity for the GEOP is a) total of 690 MW,â he said.
