Buena Vista County Farm Bureau organized a safety demonstration for the Alta-Aurelia drivers education class on April 12. Each student got to sit in the cab of a combine, tractor hooked to a grain cart, snowplow truck, and semi-tractor with 53 trailer.
The students were able to experience the size and visibility from the equipment and were shown safety features such as lights, reflectors, mirrors, and slow-moving vehicle signs. Presenters talked about equipment weight, length, width, travel speed, stopping distance turning radius, etc. and emphasized that most cars or pickups would go under the equipment in a rear end collision. Also discussed was road width and travel on gravel roads.
