Jury can’t reach verdict in trial of Harrisburg man accused of strangling Hershey-area woman and setting her on fire

After deliberating for seven hours, a Dauphin County jury on Thursday night was unable to reach a verdict in the trial of a Harrisburg man accused of strangling a Hershey-area woman and setting her on fire in May 2019.
He then scheduled Purdie’s retrial for July.
Purdie, 35, is accused of strangling 49-year-old Charlotte Chaplin in the bedroom of her home at 517 W. Chocolate Ave., then setting her body on fire. He was the boyfriend of Chaplin’s daughter and is the father of her grandson.
