With heads bowed, the faithful lifted their voices alongside local religious leaders, who prayed for America during a ceremony on Thursday in Apple Valley.
“Politics can’t fill our needs, only Jesus can,” Community Church at Jess Ranch Pastor Michael Coffee said during the mid-day event in the courtyard of Apple Valley Town Hall.
Thursday s local gathering was part of the 70th anniversary of the National Day of Prayer and one of many scheduled across the High Desert and U.S. under this year’s theme, “Lord, Pour Out Your Love, Life, and Liberty,” which comes from 2 Corinthians 3:17.

The 70th annual National Day of Prayer on Thursday will include several public assemblies across the Victor Valley who will pray for America under this year’s theme “Lord, Pour Out Your Love, Life, and Liberty.”
The NDP theme, which comes from the biblical passage 2 Corinthians 3:17, is the banner over the ceremony that centers on praying for the nation’s leaders, families, schools, children, first responders, military and the economy.
Many of the prayer events will be led by church, ministry, nonprofit and community leaders. Keynote speakers, music, readings, skits and other activities may also be included.
