The National Hockey League and NHL Players Association have reached a tentative agreement to play a 56-game regular season, starting on Jan 13.
Terms of the deal, reached on the weekend, are pending a vote by the league s board of governors and the NHLPA. Games will be within realigned divisions, including one comprised of Canada s seven teams. Star goalie Henrik Lundqvist will sit out the upcoming NHL season because of a heart condition, announcing the news a little more than two months after signing for the Washington Capitals. AP

To say things have not been normal in 2020 would be an understatement. As the calendar approaches 2021, hockey fans around the world will be given a small sense of normalcy, as the annual IIHF World Junior Championship tournament will commence in late December.
This year s tournament will certainly feel a little different. The 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship will be held in a bubble format in Edmonton, and as was the case with the 2020 Stanley Cup Qualifiers and 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs, there will not be fans in the stands for any of the games.

Pittsburgh Penguins prospects Joel Blomqvist and Calle Clang will represent Team Finland and Team Sweden, respectively, at the 2021 World Junior Championship held Dec. 25-Jan. 5 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.
Blomqvist, 18, was drafted by Pittsburgh in the second round (52nd overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft. This season, the goaltender has split time between Karpat of Liiga, Finland s top professional league, and Hermes of Mestis, Finland s second-tier professional league. In two games with Karpat, Blomqvist has gone 2-0-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average and .914 save percentage.
