A two-alarm fire Saturday at Grants Salvage Yard sent plumes of smoke so thick they at one point obscured a Boston Fire Department truck, officials said.
In response to more than a half dozen inquiries since last Thursday, a T spokesperson repeatedly declined to say when the MBTA last inspected the cracked standpipe that failed last week as firefighters responded to a train on fire at Charles/MGH Station. After this story was published stating that, spokesperson Joe Pesaturo said the MBTA does not have records of any inspections of the standpipe since it was pressure tested in 2019.
A firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and 17 people were displaced after a three-alarm fire broke out at a three-decker home in Dorchester.

Authorities are searching for those responsible for four trash fires in the Back Bay Sunday night, including one that caused a two-alarm blaze that displaced at least nine people from an apartment building on Beacon Street.
The fire at 295-297 Beacon St. started when someone set a discarded Christmas tree on fire in the rear of the building and flames then spread inside the structure, according to the Boston Fire Department.
