The Bureau of Land Management has instituted seasonal fire restrictions on BLM lands through December 31, 2021. Managing editor Tami Roleff has more information…
The BLM’s seasonal Fire Prevention Order places fire restrictions for the California Desert District which includes San Bernardino County as well as most of southern California. The elevated restrictions address the use of campfires, controlled flame devices, and smoking on public lands. In addition, recreational target shooting is prohibited in western San Bernardino County (but does not target licensed hunting). A statewide Fire Prevention Order requires a year-round campfire permit, a five-foot diameter clearance around campfires, prohibits the possession and use of steel-jacketed or steel core ammunition, and provides guidance for extinguishing campfires on BLM-managed public lands.
BLM initiates seasonal fire, target shooting restrictions in California Desert District
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The Bureau of Land Management has elevated seasonal fire restrictions effective May 6 for BLM California Desert District managed public lands within Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, Imperial, southern Inyo, eastern Mono, San Diego, and eastern Kern counties. These restrictions will remain in effect until December 31, unless terminated sooner if conditions warrant.
“Every year at this time, we ask all members of the public to partner with us to minimize fire potential,” said California Desert District Manager Andrew Archuleta. “Without your help and the proactive measures we have in place, dry grass and brush could easily ignite, cause a wildfire and threaten public land visitors, communities, adjacent private lands, and natural resources.”
BLM Bishop Field Office eases seasonal fire restrictions
Bishop, Calif. Effective Jan. 6, the Bureau of Land Management Bishop Field Office is easing seasonal fire restrictions on all BLM-managed public lands extending from the southern Owens Valley in Inyo County, north to Topaz Lake and the Nevada border in Mono County. The year-round statewide Fire Prevention Order remains in effect.
The BLM is easing fire restrictions for the Eastern Sierra Region in close coordination with the CAL FIRE San Bernardino/Inyo/Mono Unit. The eased restrictions affect popular BLM-managed recreational areas in the region including the Alabama Hills National Scenic Area, Inyo Mountains Wilderness, Volcanic Tableland, Long Valley, Adobe Valley, Mono Basin, Bodie Hills, Bridgeport Valley and Slinkard Valley.
