that he received and having that conversation that outlined the basic atrocities in circumventing the chain of command and department of justice. when he saw that, he had to speak up on that action. here s something sara huckabee also said today. the president considered firing james comey since she was elected. this led the white house to go through another cleanup effort putting out another time line saying the president had been losing confidence for months when he saw comey testifying the president had even more concerns and then after meeting with his attorney general and deputy attorney general and sort of reading their letters, that is when the president decided ultimately to fire comey, but you can see obviously once again the white house not really prepared with how they re crafting their narrative around this. i don t want to nitpick on
every single time. in this process i gave you the best information i had at the moment. i still don t think that it contradict sz the president s decision. you guys want to get lost in the process. i don t think asking you a question and getting an answer is getting lost in the process. and i m answering those questions. it s very simple. the president decided to fire director comey. nobody else gets to make that decision. he made it. he stands by it. as do the rest of us. thank you. mike? two questions. following up on this. back in i think october of last year the former president was highly criticized by members of the fbi and others outside of the fbi for making comments on television that were sort of suggested that he had an opinion about how the hillary clinton e-mail case should and the charge was that he was interfering. he was putting his thumb on the scale of an on going active
he was looking for an assessment. that would come from james comey s direct boss. the attorney general of the united states, deputy. rod rosenstein. interesting. there has obviously been some monday morning quarterbackingiv here in terms of what is going on with the communications operations. what can you give us? there s a lot of stories out there that the president was probably talking about wanting to fire comey around the white house.e. anyone he was talking to. clearly this was a very closely held operation. i was talking to some white house officials a few minutes ago, among all of the things that have been swirling around the white house and the things that have leaked, this is the one thing that didn t leak out. a lot of the communications team was not even in their offices at the time the news dropped. there was an ice cream social for a group of veterans. some of the comm staff was
true. was the vice president misled again or did he mislead the american people? i believe i answered that. if you have, i don t think i caught it. the vp said yesterday that the president chose to support the decision of the deputy attorney general and attorney general. he certainly accepted the deputy attorney general that doesn t mean that he wouldn t still accept his recommendation. they re on the same page. why are we arguing about the semantics of whether or not he accepted it. they agreed. i mean, i m not sure how he didn t accept the deputy attorney general s recommendation when they agreed with one another. if i may just switch topics slightly. if he knew if the president knew that he was going to do this, why ask for those memos to begin with? why not just fire comey? why have these memos put out and then explain that he did it because of the memos but then said he was going to do it either way. i m confused to even why we got the memos. i think he wanted to get
hands around a messaging war. and they have had conflicting messages, peter, take a look at scene spicer and sarah sanders and the reasons they re giving for why jim comey was fired. did anyone order them to do this review? i do know the decision to fire director comey was the president s and the president s alone. the president had been thinking about it since november. it was something he considered so, kristin wellker, you see the differing points as to who made that president rosenstein. to come up with a reason, write a letter, and then like that the
