A temporary COVID-19 vaccine site is up and running this weekend at the Alabama Fire College. This was a multiagency operation that saw workers from the Fire College, Tuscaloosa County EMA, City of Northport and City of Tuscaloosa on site helping with distribution.
This facility will be administering the Moderna vaccine to those who have made appointments online. The doses were provided by the ADPH. We ve been planning this for two months, and it finally came together last week, said Fire Chief Randy Smith. We started looking at this as soon as the vaccine came out. DCH initially started administering vaccines, and it became very evident that they would need some assistance. We re just doing our part standing up and helping make sure 2,000 people get inoculated.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - The Arizona Board of Technical Registration granted Deputy Fire Marshal Jennifer Akins the Professional Engineer (PE) designation as a Fire Protection Engineer.
Akins was required to successfully complete the PE Exam, which consists of 85 questions based on 17 topics. The exam takes eight and a half hours to complete.
Four firefighter-paramedics from the South San Joaquin County Fire Authority based in Tracy were deployed to a Southern California hospital to help address the surge of COVID-19 cases.

Andrew Montalbano is being promoted from Fire Captain to Deputy Fire Chief for Special Operations. He will lead âCâ Group, focusing on hazardous materials response, marine operations, technical rescue and lead the cityâs unmanned aerial systems program with the Police Department.
Michael Zalewski is being promoted from Fire Captain to Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention and Operations and will be assigned to âDâ group. He will lead fire prevention, fire investigations and overall fire response operation efforts for the department, working closely with Code Enforcement, Police investigators and other city agencies.
Every Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue engine and ladder truck will soon be furnished with advanced life support equipment, including cardiac monitors, defibrillators and automated CPR devices, thanks to roughly $1.4 million worth of funding.
The equipment, which is largely funded by grants and other funding outside of the city s general fund, will increase the chances of survival for sudden cardiac arrest cases and other medical emergencies, city officials said Monday.
