By for deployment. Reporter thats right. We already know at least one bay area firefighter is on the east coast. He had to take a connecting flight to puerto rico. Hes one of 20 people thats part of a nationwide task force. They were initially stationed in puerto rico when dorian was a tropical storm. And when it strengthened to a hurricane, its now repositioned and they are headed to florida. The menlo park fire chief is part of the task force. They are prepping and are on standby, ready to respond to incidents just like this. They have not been activated but theyll help if they get the call. These teams have special capabilities. And really their inception was based on the earthquake. The people that are involved have a lot of technical rescue skill and capability that may not be germane to the local first responders.
