A longtime commissioner on both the Planning Commission and the SFMTA board of directors, Gwyneth Borden, has decided to step down from the SFMTA board following her censure by the Ethics Commission over an undisclosed lobbying job.
The San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved two of Mayor London Breed s nominees to serve on the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency s board but not without a lengthy discussion on diversity for one of them.
Emanuel Manny Yekutiel, a gay man and the owner of the eponymously named cafe and event space at 16th and Valencia streets in the Mission district, was approved on a 9-2 vote Tuesday, January 5. He will be the transit board s only LGBTQ member and an advocate for local merchants who for years have called for such a representative on the oversight panel.
Fiona Hinze, a disability rights advocate who lives with cerebral palsy, was approved 11-0. Her appointment brings the number of women on the seven-person SFMTA board to five.

Mayor London Breed’s nominees for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency board a small business owner and an accessibility advocate were approved Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors.
Manny Yekutiel, the owner of café and political event space Manny’s in the Mission, and Fiona Hinze, system change director at Independent Living Resource Center San Francisco, will help oversee the agency that runs Muni, streets and parking during a tumultuous time, with ridership and finances devastated by the pandemic.
A gay small business owner is one step closer to a seat on the powerful San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency s board after a hearing Monday by the Board of Supervisors rules committee.
Emanuel Manny Yekutiel s nomination was approved 3-0 during the December 14 remote hearing. The committee also unanimously recommended disability rights advocate Fiona Hinze to another seat on the SFMTA board. Mayor London Breed nominated both Yekutiel and Hinze.
Yekutiel owns the eponymously named cafe and event space at 16th and Valencia streets in the Mission district. He currently serves on the San Francisco Small Business Commission, a seat he will resign if approved for the SFMTA board.
