crystal ball. i wish i had one. i think we are in a slow economy that s gotten mediocre growth to it, 2.5 to 3% is what we re looking at. i think the job market is very much symptomatic of what we re seeing in the overall economy. i think unfortunately what we re seeing is people are still somewhat reluctant to hire because they don t know what the end game will be with the federal reserve. i think the starting of the tapering which will begin in december and continue on throughout the year is going to help people get more reassured that maybe the economy can stand on its own two feet, but i don t really think that we can get significant job growth until people can be confident that the economy is going to be able to stand on its own two feet. i m going to touch on the federal reserve here for a moment. let me go here. unemployment rate, 6.6%. people found jobs. more americans started looking for jobs suggesting that their chances of finding jobs still, you know, getting better.
so we had the port authority transparency and accountability act. i worked with new york state assembly members and senators in a bipartisan way, i worked with the other side of the aisle and we passed both houses and he vetoed it. so what was he protecting? was he protecting the patronage mill of the port authority? he certainly wasn t protecting the commuters. because when they had those public meetings, ting there were about eleven in one day, three days later, there was a toll sea breeze. so whether that was going through the motions of having those public meetings. so you tried to bring transparency. and accountability. statement, he s stuffing people in there, finding jobs for people. he s giving an ally i have to say, $300,000 a year for the job bill burroni has, that s a lot of money. look at the budget. $7 billion. that s bigger than 26 states. look at the overtime they had.
that they don t have to face and went through difficulties of finding jobs they don t have to face and what had very little help from a lot of people. that part of the motivation. was it part of the motivation to remind women on whose shoulders they stand? i have daughters and you remember paul mccartney s group, wings. they re so anti-historical. i thought i would write about a young woman and it would get to them in a moving way rather than me talking about it. talk about the interviews you did and what kind of things you did. what they did about birth control in 1967. it was about everything about how they saw themselves and how when they had ambitions and perhaps because they were feeling defensive about their
my first reaction is that it s a solid report. the payroll gains as you mentioned north of 200,000 for the past few months. if you kind of average out some of the dips in these numbers, we re adding jobs at about 190,000 per month this year. that s enough to slowly, steadily bring down the unemployment rate. and we should note that the decline in unemployment from 7.3% to 7%, some of the months we talked about falling unemployment has been because people have left the job market. they ve given up hope of finding jobs. last month they came into the labor market, they found jobs. so a solid report for sure. as we look at the reaction from the right on this, speaker boehner said today s report includes positive signs that should discourage calls for more stimulus. and eric cantor saying our nation needs even more robust and reliable job growth. and then a statement from the rnc reads in part i m glad to
the high price of education in colleges and tuition increases going up, people are concerned about where their dollars are going to go. where we are going to be with education. what is going to be the difference in terms of finding jobs. where are these jobs going to be coming from? and one of the things that terry speaks about quite frequently is the expansion of medicaid. that he ll fund a lot of these things through that. when you boil that down and itemize how much money you are speaking about, when that s coming, it doesn t spell out after my class that you spoke of, there were any numbers of discussions relative to the candidate s appearances and i can tell you that that class, i would measure the class to believe it s a majority democrat but there was not majority enthusiasm for either of the candidates. all right. governor wilder, josh barro with business insider. hey, josh, how are?
