Expanded, improved McMurry greenhouse gets Earth Day grand opening
That mission gives the ceremony, scheduled for 10 a.m. on Earth Day, special resonance.
The facility is used for “teaching, research and service,” said Dr. Gary Wilson, project director for the Title V grant funding the improvements, a place used by students, faculty and members of the local Big Country Master Gardeners program.
The five-year, $750,000 per year Department of Education grant is specifically designed to strengthen Hispanic-serving institutions, said Wilson, who also is McMurry’s department head for Human Health Science.
The grant, now in its third year, has a goal of building and bolstering new programs for Hispanic students and to find mechanisms to increase their resiliency and retention,” he said.
