The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) found “some inappropriate practices” during an investigation into whether Shin Kong Financial Holding Co (新光金控) took orders from its former chairman Eugene Wu (吳東進), the commission said yesterday.
The commission began its probe in November last year, after Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Michelle Lin (林楚茵) said that Wu had allegedly attended four meetings with senior Shin Kong Financial managers, giving them instructions regarding the firm’s credit card and land development operations.
In September 2020, the commission suspended Wu as chairman of Shin Kong Financial’s life insurer unit, Shin Kong Life Insurance Co (新光人壽). It also banned

The 163 companies that fulfill the criteria include Taiwan Cement Corp (台灣水泥), China Steel Corp (中鋼), Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (台積電), Hon Hai Precision Industry Co (鴻海精密) and ASE Technology Holding Co (日月光投控), Securities and Futures Bureau Deputy Director Sam Chang (張振山) told a news conference in New Taipei City.

FSC investigating Next Bank purchase

The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) is conducting a financial examination of Next Bank (將來銀行), a Web-only bank that has not yet begun operations, to see if it acquired an overpriced information technology (IT) system from its largest shareholder, Chunghwa Telecom Co (中華電信), the commission said yesterday.
The commission last week received reports about the deal from a few whistle-blowers, as well as Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Legislator Alex Fai (費鴻泰).
It is rare for the commission to inspect banks that have not yet begun operations.
